Small but Fascinating Iceland - Part 1

Adventures in Iceland, in a country with a sharp contrast. You will get precious memories by visiting it by all means. Here you can find what you need for your trip and what places you definitely cannot miss. If you are a Wanderlust, we will guide you all around Iceland and share our story.
We traveled there in August. At that time everything is green and average temperatures are one of the highest, but still it is the end of the season. And as always, the weather has its own mood.
Our plane landed almost at midnight so we took our car from a rental company and drove to the nearest camping in town called Gardur. Check it on Google maps here.
First day in Iceland we started with great view. The Ocean. The lighthouses.
Picture
In the old lighthouse you can find a café, where every visitor can drink coffee. In Iceland coffee is expensive. It costs near 300-500 icelandic krona or $3-5 dollars.

It’s hard to describe Iceland in words or show in photo. All I can show you is just a small part of overall magnificent views. Such excitement you cannot feel to the fullest by reading and observing the pictures.
It was just the beginning of our journey.

Later we traveled to Reykjavik – the capital of Iceland – to find an information center and buy the Campingcard and gather more info where to go. Unfortunately, we couldn't buy the card at once, because they were sold out. So we found it on the third attempt. You can find all the places where to buy here. But you always can ask people and they will help.
While walking we saw Landakotskirkja church – the cathedral of the Catholic Church in Iceland.
Picture
Our next stop was Þingvellir. There are several parking places because the park is huge and you can also walk all around it so what we did, or you can drive to each place. But still I trully recomment to walk.
It was raining that special day. And we were glad tha raincoats were on our packing list. Because that people who were there soaked to the skin. The day was cold and cloudy. But such weather conditions cannot stop you when you are in Iceland and have a strong intention to explore it.
Picture
It was beautiful even in such charming greyness.

So you have to be prepared to challenging condition when travel. The weather shouldn't stop you discover the world. We spent almost the whole day in the national park due to our raincoats.

First four days of our trip was rainy and gloomy. People even started joking that there is no sun in Iceland.
Our next camping was Arknes. You can find their facebook page here. We kept going to the valley of geysers.
From time to time you can see beautiful icelandic horses near the road. They are low and look like a pony, but so cute and friendly. Tourists often feed them, but it is prohibited and I strongly recommend not to do it, because it could harm this lovely creatures. But I think that is the reason why they are so companionable.
Picture
The valley of geysers is great, here you can see a little geysir which is always gurgles and the big first Geysir, on behalf of which the rest geysers are called.
Picture
But the most popular is Strokkur – a fountain active geyser which erupts every few minutes. Tourists are massively taking photo of it. So do I.
Picture
And it gives a lot of fun =)
Picture
The Great Geysir can erupt hot water to a height of 60 meters but it also could be dormant for years. The last eruption was in October 2015. Geysir looks like this.
Picture
It was a cloudy and windy day but we decided to climb the hill and see this valley from a height. Even in bad weather you can see how colorful the landscape is.
Picture
Next Gullfoss – one of the famous waterfalls in the golden circle of Iceland. The height is 32 meters. And there are two viewing platforms on top one another below.
Picture
There is a café there at the top. Unfortunately, you cannot see the waterfall from there, but we met there incredible icelandic horses. Also there is an opportunity to ride for some price in case you or your children have such desire.
Picture
Next stop – Haifoss waterfall – the third highest waterfall of the island - drops from a height of 122 m. It was challenging to get there because of the road. We thought that it was the F-road, but there were no signs of that. In the picture you can see the beauty of the landscape and no, it is not a lake on a photo, it is a hole on the road =)
Picture
It seems as though you are on the other planet. The view is spacious and magical. The nature like it is.
Picture
High waterfalls from different sides. The least you can do it’s to make a photo and collect these breathtaking landscapes and show them to the world using your insta.
Picture
It would be great to see the view from the bottom but we do not have such opportunity.
So many fascinating places we have already visited - and it was our only second day! There is still so much ahead.
